It’s Personal with Melissa

I’ve been in an office in some capacity for as long as I can remember.  Whether it was the co-op educational opportunities in high school and college on even further back than that I have always been drawn to business and how it works.

Two distinct childhood memories

When I think about how long I’ve been getting ready to be your partner I realize that I’ve wanted to do this for my entire life.   My parents were successful small business owners.  I remember being only five or six years old, sitting in  the office of my their machine shop  just pounding away on the keys of Mom’s electric typewriter , as fast as I could.  I wanted to be just like her.

A few years later,  while I was  still in grade school, Mom spread her entrepreneurial wings a bit further.  She wanted to  provide a little “extra income” and decided to start a business as a Tupperware Consultant.   I loved helping her sort orders, pack her bags and go out on deliveries. The most fun was when she held her parties were at our house.  It was amazing to watch her engage everyone… playing games,…. Having fun.   And she knew so much about the products, I loved watching every minute of it.    I still remember the pride I felt when she became a Manager.  The imprint of a business that makes money and makes people happy is part of my DNA.

A stay at home Mom-preneur

Although I was happy working as an administrative assistant when I met and married my best friend, the arrival of our first child changed things.  Not only were we  blessed with his arrival, I was able to stay at home with him.   It seemed to be just the right time to launch my own direct sales business.   Since I had been using (and loving) certain products for years, I contacted a friend and became a consultant.

And although I was reasonably successful, I found that my passion in all the things I volunteered to do to provide support to my sister consultants: creating custom flyers and invitations,  researching the latest party ideas and product information.  My director even honored me with the “Go-Giver” award for our unit .

Now I am able to blend my passions …

With the addition of my second son our family’s needs changed.  I missed using my skills and talents as an administrative professional and went back to work part-time.  It didn’t’ take me long to figure out that I needed to be able to work from home more.  It was my idol… (my Mom) who finally asked me to find someone to help me figure out how to use my  talents?”  So I reached out to a business coach and she helped me discover a way to put together all THREE of my life-long passions:

  • Ÿ collaborating direct sales superstars and
  • Ÿ providing high-quality, creative administrative support
  • Ÿ being able to step away from my office when the school bus pulls up

Ÿ And what’s with The Golden Rule?

Simple.  It’s how I try to live every day – both in and out of the office.  My mission and  my “rule” are the same: to treat your business as if it were my very own, with respect, creativity, professionalism and care.
