When you think about email marketing, most likely the first thing that comes to mind are “newsletters” but if that is the only way you are using your email marketing service then you are missing out on a way to keep in touch in a more effective and focused way.

There are many different email marketing providers out there, as a Solution Provider with ConstantContact, that is my personal preference, however there are several others like; MailChimp, Aweber, and MyNewsletterBuilder just to name a few.  Whatever your favorite or current system is, you can get started with these ABC’s to take better advantage of the power of email marketing.

Here are some ABC’s to get you started:You Have Mail

Autoresponder:  You’ve heard it said “the fortune is in the follow-up” and one way to make that happen is to create a system of follow-up with an autoresponder.   Simply put, it allows you to create an “automated” response or series of emails to go out once you add an email to the autoresponder.

This is a great tool for when you have a new prospect or team member.  Take the series of emails you probably have saved in your inbox with all the links and attachments you frequently send to someone, and put it into an autoresponder to follow-up with that person every few days with a “call to action” in each one.  This allows you to provide the valuable information they need in a strategic and systematized way, without you having to personally send each email along the way.

Blast:  An email blast refers to a short email message sent out to your list.  This can be a great way to announce an upcoming team challenge, and then after the challenge is over you can send another “blast” to recognize who completed the challenge.  You could also send an email blast to your customers to share a personal sale or promotion you are offering.

Contact Lists:  By organizing your contacts into separate lists you can easily send your emails to targeted groups.  For example, you may have the following lists; Customers, Team, Leaders, Prospects, Hosts.   By having different lists you can send your message to the right audience, or even multiple lists, if you want to send out information about an upcoming team event that is going to include an opportunity presentation for potential new team members, you may then determine that is something you want to send to all your lists,  but team training on “how to get more bookings” is not something you would want to send to your customers.  It allows you to easily send focused messages to targeted groups.
