There is something special about quotes. It seems like everyone has a quote that inspires, motives, or just makes them smile. In college a friend of mine kept a “quote book” and would ask people to share their favorite quotes by writing them in his journal. I recently started keeping one myself, full of quotes, affirmations, and positive messages so that when I need a little dose of inspiration I can open it up and find something profound.

Recently, my good friend and coach Lara Galloway shared this quote with me. Like me, you may have heard it before, but I think the real magic about quotes is that each time you read them, depending on what is going on in your life at the moment, may have different meanings or significance to you when you read them.  This quote is so wonderful and powerful…what do you get out of reading it this time?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves ‘who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?’Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~ Marianne Williamson
