There is a little something special that I like to share…I say that it’s “special” because over the years I’ve had several people express that this was a gift that I had. But it’s a funny thing about our “gifts” they don’t often feel very special to us, perhaps because they come easily to us.
A perfect example; I have a friend who is just the most amazing cook you’ll ever meet! What’s so amazing about her is that after a party without batting an eyelash she can describe all the delicious ways she will take the leftover cheese cubes and veggie platter and turn them into something I would pay too much money for to eat in a fancy five star restaurant!
It’s amazing all the wonderful talents that we have and don’t realize because we do them without strain or effort, they just flow out of you naturally. Not sure what your talent is? What is something you are often asked to do? My Mom wraps the most beautiful presents! I have a co-worker famous for her frosted brownies and my sister is the most incredible storyteller!
You have a gift, I promise you that and it’s a wonderful gift because its yours to share.
My gift is that I enjoy writing poems. Just like my friend can see gourmet meals out of leftover party food, I can flow words together to craft a heartfelt poem. They can be silly or serious, but my favorite types of poems to write are more of a tribute, where I express my appreciation and feelings about someone special.
When my very lovely and supportive Mary Kay Director decided to retire, I wanted to honor her generous spirit by writing her a tribute. This is the poem I wrote for her…
Jan’s Joyful Noise
Jan’s Joyful Noise is not just the banging of a drum
It starts off low with a soft sort of hum
Not all can hear it, because you need to listen with more than your ears
It’s a sound from within that has develop stronger over the years
Jan’s Joyful Noise is actually a quiet sort of sound
The kind you need to be gently around
The sound is rhythmic like the beating of a heart
For that is the very place where the noise should start
Jan’s Joyful Noise is more than a sound
It’s the very heart and soul of a woman whose love knows no bounds
We thank you Jan for sharing your Joyful Noise with all of us
Please know that the noise you have played for us will be a sound that beats
gently in our hearts in that special place you have touched in each of us
